  • Nick Whiting | North Somerset Arts

Nick Whiting Sculpture Venue 3 Nick Whiting Sculpture Nick Whiting Sculpture 1/1 My sculpting life has taken a dramatic and new direction in the last two years. First, I was asked to do a statue of St Francis of Assisi for a friend. The outcome of this is that the figure I produced now lives in the communal gardens of a retirement home and is much loved by all who go to see him. Whilst doing this I was given a commission by a school in Accra, Ghana for three life size busts to represent the three people who founded the school 24 years ago. The school has established itself and is now very highly regarded in the education world. They are currently building an extension to the school and the busts will have a special part in the new building - cast in bronze, to be on permanent display for evermore! Hilary Kington Mixed Media Venue 8 Hilary Kington Mixed Media Hilary Kington Mixed Media 1/1 I am a wildlife watcher, conservationist, painter and printmaker with a passion for our local salt marshes. In our increasingly fragile world conservation and education is now a key part of my work. We are lucky to have these precious places but they are in decline and their future hangs in the balance. My hand-pressed, woodcut prints tell the stories of these wetlands and their endangered wildlife. I often inscribe messages into the woodcuts so people know why they need protecting. It is only when we understand the problems that we can help to protect the world around us. • Wendy Hope | North Somerset Arts

Wendy Hope Mixed Media Venue 13 Wendy Hope Mixed Media Wendy Hope Mixed Media 1/1 Wendy Hope spent her first career bringing creativity to schools, as a teacher and head teacher. She was awarded the Artsmark Gold Award by the Arts Council before moving on to develop her work as an artist and writer. As well as drawing, painting and textiles, Wendy creates large scale sculptures using glass from Murano and neon gas - not LEDs. Inspired by her sketches of dancers and by themes such as Memories and Time, the glass is handcrafted over hot flames to her design. Infusing the glass with gases produces stunning coloured lights which Wendy mounts onto a background of steel or natural wood. Artefacts are often added to enhance the theme and these can be personal to the client to ensure every artwork is original. These artworks are perfect for large walls and staircases and bring a Wow! to homes and businesses. HopeNeon artworks were exhibited in the OXO Tower Wharf on London’s South Bank in 2023. Commissions accepted. Website: https://www.HopeNeon.com Facebook: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/HopeNeonBristol Email: wendyhope22@gmail.com Venue: Prior’s Field, Harris Lane, Abbots Leigh

  • Tina Dodd | North Somerset Arts

Tina Dodd Various Venue 22 Tina Dodd Various Tina Dodd Various 1/1 An artist whose main interest is in the landscape. Tina’s inspiration comes mostly from the Mendip Hills, where she has lived with her husband for nearly 30 years, and often involves working her way through lots of iPad photographs taken on her walks or through the window on car journeys. This has become an important part of her creative process. “Colour can be a distraction for me and so I work from the images to produce monochromatic drawings in charcoal or graphite. These materials help me achieve the wonderful contrasts of light and dark that I see in the landscape.” In recent years Tina has been exploring printmaking techniques, in particular monotypes, as a medium through which she is able to achieve the changing moods and contrasts of light and dark that she finds. Further afield nostalgic memories of holidays on Exmoor and the dramatic landscape of Dartmoor have inspired Tina to find a way of expressing those feelings. Given that drawing is at the heart of her creative practice yet wanting colour to play a part, Tina finds that mark-making with vibrant pastels allows her to do this in a manner that suits the way she likes to work. Tina has had work selected for, amongst others, the Friends of the Royal West of England Academy exhibitions in Bristol and the Bath Society of Artists Open Exhibitions. She runs regular art classes in her village and is a visiting art tutor to various local art groups. More information can be found on Tina’s website.
