Gabbie Gardner
Enamels, Jewellery, Mixed Media, Painting/Drawing, Textile Art I am a professional designer and maker producing both two and three dimensional work. My work celebrates diversity and detail of the natural world, often inspired by the textures, shapes and colours of the West Country. Jewellery designs develop in response to initial ideas and starting points, which could be anything from the shapes of lichen to the myriad colours of a landscape. Materials are chosen to best suit the developed designs and to evoke some element of that initial inspiration. This could be contrasting textures on a piece of silver or capturing a certain shade of sky blue by using an appropriate gemstone. My aim in jewellery making is always to create pieces which are well designed, durable, comfortable to wear and timeless, ensuring that the wearer may enjoy the piece for many years. Drawing, painting and textile work enable me to explore more conceptual ideas such as meanings of place and possessions and our relationships to them. Hayley Jones
Metalwork, Sculpture Hayley is a professional artist who sculpts a variety of single strand wires, including copper, steel and aluminium to construct intricate animal and bird forms and then mounts them on to all sorts of interesting found objects, such as old gates, water troughs, weathered driftwood and reclaimed wood which she sources while exploring the local countryside. Sometimes these objects can be the spark of an idea for a specific piece, other times, the bird or animal is the starting point. In 2021 Hayley was commissioned to make the large stainless steel Sea Eagle Sculpture which is outside The Chestnut Park Junior School in Yatton, North Somerset. Metalwork, Sculpture I am a professional contemporary artist blacksmith designing and creating unique hand forged sculptures for the home & garden. Inspired by nature’s flowing forms & textures I translate my ideas in steel by using traditional blacksmithing techniques. My outdoor pieces are designed to add architectural height & focal interest where needed or functionality to support a plant. My indoor ironwork is varied, including my signature floral pieces and is constantly evolving through experimentation and enjoyment of my craft. Texture and fluidity are an important aspect of my work. I aim for my pieces to be tactile, being seen equally through touch, a sensation my hands are physically denied during the making process. I set up Fire Iron Art in 2013 taking on client commissions for bespoke sculptural & architectural ironwork and run blacksmith experience days for those who want to try this heritage craft. At Dartington College of Arts I discovered my passion for working with metal. The National School of Blacksmithing taught me the techniques to unlock the materials potential. I continue to explore its possibilities every time I light my forge. Website: www.fireironart.com Instagram: @fireironart Facebook: fireironart |
