Dawn Cox
Painting/Drawing
I am practising professional artist and art tutor in and around North Somerset. I work in acrylics, watercolours, and mixed media. My interest is in landscapes predominantly and the communication of a sense of atmosphere. My style is loose and with limited information; I like to offer the idea of a place, inviting the imagination of the viewer to make their own interpretations. For me, what is left out is as important as what is included, and I love composition which includes empty spaces. I also love to paint portraits - both the furry type and the human type!

Sarah Boden
Painting/DrawingThrough paintings and prints, a sense of place and feeling by abstracting the form and colour in the landscape. Rather than replicating the scene her work relies on the metaphorical, patterning, and semi-abstract, each a visual poem informed by sketches, watercolours and memories. Living and travelling overseas, particularly in Asia, has provided a wealth of inspiration which can be found in the details, colours and textures of Sarah's work.
Since returning to Bristol in 2017, Sarah has received an MA, worked for Saatchi and Arnolfini and as the Administrator for NSA. Her award-winning paintings can be found in private collections both in the UK and overseas or through The Sanctuary Gallery, Newnham and Handmade in Painswick. Sarah's first UK solo show is open to the public from 3rd Feb - 26th April 23 at The Square Club, Clifton, Bristol.

June Bensted
Painting/Drawing
June is an artist living in Backwell where she can enjoy her rural surroundings and often paints the local fields as seen from her garden. She also has a love of the sea and interprets her own thoughts and views of crashing waves against rocks or moody skies over the water in her own inimitable way. She has always wanted to paint but only found time for this when she retired and has spent the last 10 years developing her own style which can vary from representational to abstract. Her sea painting especially comes from within and allows her to follow her imagination.
She splits her time between England and France where she and her husband Chris have a holiday home or up in her homeland of Scotland which she finds totally inspiring! She paints using mainly oils.

Jane Canning
Ceramics
When I want to sound posh, I call myself a ceramicist. But really, I am just a potter and I love making pots on the wheel (practice may make perfect, but not yet for me). Is pottery a craft or an art? What is the difference? I try to combine the two by making beautiful, exciting pieces for everyday use – form and function. Recently I have leaned more towards the form, producing decorative or commemorative plates, but there will still be many functional bowls in my display. I had hoped seventeen years as a chemistry teacher would help inform the technology of glazing and firing. That hasn’t worked out. There are so many variables it is almost impossible to predict what will come out of the kiln; pottery seems to be more alchemy than science. However, my background in teaching means I retain pleasure in helping children explore clay, real clay, that is really mucky. Come and reminisce with me about your time discovering the joys of clay and see my not yet perfect pots – are they art or craft?

Emma Garland
Jewellery, Various
I make geometric wooden jewellery, using sustainably sourced walnut wood.
My work is influenced by my love of clean, crisp design and simple shapes. I enjoy using pops of cheerful colour to contrast with the wood.
The wooden pieces I use to make my jewellery are laser cut by a Bristol company who translate my hand drawn sketches into real life wooden shapes. I then sand, paint, varnish and assemble my jewellery by hand in my garden studio in Portishead.
I also design greetings cards for all occasions. I make the original art work as cut paper collages, incorporating my own pattern designs, which are then digitally printed on to eco-friendly card.
You can see my full range of work in my Etsy shop:

Ann Kelson
Painting/Drawing
After always being a Maker I was lucky enough to attend and graduate from UWE in 2014 with a First Class Honours Degree in Drawing and Applied Arts. I am interested in lots of materials and mediums and can’t imagine a life where I wasn’t being creative in some way.
During a trip to Cornwall I became inspired by the landscape, the light and the colours and I began to create paintings which focused on these things.
I hope my paintings are full of life and energy and try to promote this with my choice of techniques and materials. I include glitter and metal leaf in my work in an effort to capture the sparkle I see and feel at the coast. I enjoy using bright colours and textures to capture an impression and atmosphere rather than a direct representation.
I have recently opened a small studio, gallery and am enjoying developing a range of prints on paper and aluminium as well as my usual acrylic originals.

Hannah Vigneron
Ceramics
I started making pottery in 2019 after visiting North Somerset Arts Week. Seeing so many different artforms inspired me to take a class and I haven't looked back since! My work is mostly wheel-thrown. I enjoy smooth clean forms that provide a canvas for my glaze combinations. I am fascinated by the chemistry of glazes and love to create my own recipes and experiment with different colours and effects. I aim to reproduce some of the vibrant colours found in the natural world - from stunning sunsets to the Northern Lights. Each combination is rooted in a particular memory. I hope that using my pieces will make your day just a little bit more special!
