Mosaic
Professional mosaicist creating wildlife-inspired mosaics. Usually made from stained glass, these wildlife mosaics feature birds, trees and animals and are represented in vibrant, modern, flowing style.
Lizzie finds that the challenge is to create a piece that looks realistic in the unforgiving medium of stained glass. As glass is very rigid, it can’t be blended like paint, and compromising on glass colour is usual as there is a finite palette. Grout is crucial in creating movement and flow. Not only where the grout goes, but also the grout colour, can break a piece apart or bring it together and this is often the hardest part.
Selling internationally through ETSY (www.lamosaicgifts.etsy.com), commissions are also welcome.

My paintings are in direct response to continual change, in the landscape, the seasons, my surroundings and connections, from Somerset to Cornwall.
Applying oil paint onto canvas with knives and fingers helps me to connect to and interpret the memory of that time and place. To respond to the feeling rather than visual representation of the landscape. This is both very personal and individual.

Jenny Urquhart's journey from a biology teacher to self-taught artist is one of joy and self-discovery. She started painting in 2010 and since then her work has been hung in galleries and homes all over Bristol and the Southwest. Having had no formal training, Jenny has experimented with many styles and techniques, but her sources of inspiration are always drawn from warm memories and a deep connection to nature.
Jenny’s academic background in life sciences adds a unique perspective to her art and this connection with the living world is evident in the themes and motifs she explores in her paintings. Despite living in an urban environment, her memories as a child growing up surrounded by countryside heavily influences her paintings and her work consistently portrays happy feelings of rural nostalgia and tranquillity.

I make artists books and zines using collage, found materials, text and ephemera. I have been posting mail art to the Field Study project in Australia for around 15 years. The topics in my work reflect my concerns about environmental damage and inequality, using satire as a means to get the rage out! Also other visual humour where I can find it.....

As an artist, I have spent 17 years perfecting my skills as an enamelled copper and mixed media artist. The versatility of enamelling and the ability to achieve bright, vibrant colours continually inspire me. I love incorporating these colourful creations into everyday objects to produce unique pieces of art. A quote that deeply resonates with me is,
"You watch it cool down slowly from white or red heat to deep blues, solemn violets, juicy greens, subtle lilacs, glowing orange, with a pure unbroken glaze for the surface, and then you know that your labour is not in vain, your work beautiful, it will never fade" - Edith Dawson, Enamels.
During the lockdown, I delved into the world of mixed media and discovered a love of creating my crazy grey-haired ladies. I enjoy blending them with unusual objects, providing me with an opportunity to frequent vintage fairs and unearth hidden treasures.

As an artist, I am inspired by the aerial landscape and maps, which allow me to view the world from a unique perspective. Through my paintings, I aim to evoke a sense of wonder and awe, inviting the viewer to see the world through my eyes. My work combines elements of abstraction and realism, blending the intricate details of maps with the flowing lines, patterns and textures found in nature.
My process derives from photographs taken from commercial flights, satellite imagery and the study of maps. I use a varied combination of acrylic paint, collaged hand made papers, photographs, and mono prints, often sanding back the surface and applying glazes to create a rich surface.
I gained BA hons in Fine Art (painting) first class from UWE, returning to gain an MA in multi disciplinary printmaking in 2008. I have exhibited nationally and internationally in selected exhibitions including, Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions, Mall Gallery Originals Contemporary Printmaking Exhibitions, RWA Annual Exhibitions, and Marzia Frozen gallery Berlin.

My sculpting life has taken a dramatic and new direction in the last two years. First, I was asked to do a statue of St Francis of Assisi for a friend. The outcome of this is that the figure I produced now lives in the communal gardens of a retirement home and is much loved by all who go to see him. Whilst doing this I was given a commission by a school in Accra, Ghana for three life size busts to represent the three people who founded the school 24 years ago. The school has established itself and is now very highly regarded in the education world. They are currently building an extension to the school and the busts will have a special part in the new building - cast in bronze, to be on permanent display for evermore!

My art is fairly diverse as I’m continually inspired by different threads/directions, which could mean I’m working on an oil portrait one week or a collage the next.
Collages are created using hand-painted papers and acrylics. Each collage begins with many sketches, a general composition and plan but usually evolves into something completely different. Each painting is a delightful journey of unexpected outcomes.
Like many artists, the natural world is my biggest source of inspiration and I’m particularly drawn to painting birds and other wildlife.
