Janet Haigh

Textile Art

I am a designer-maker, applied artist, researcher, lecturer whatever you want to call me - I stitch stuff by hand: fabric, paper, metal, vitreous enamel. I am fascinated and stimulated by materials and colour. Hand stitching is slow work, whatever the material, giving time for reflection and the development of ideas. I am fascinated by trying to get beneath the surface appearance of things, often using symbols and emblems to hint at what lies beneath the seemingly innocent and beautiful. Haigh & Jacobson make work inspired by the views from their house & studios overlooking the estuary at Portishead. Exhibiting oil paintings, embroidered textiles and giclee prints that mainly reflect the estuary, skies and the surrounding land and sea scapes.
