  • Mary McKean | North Somerset Arts

Mary McKean Glass Mary McKean Glass Mary McKean Glass 1/1 After making mosaics for many years, Mary now fuses glass. She makes bowls, coasters and individual display pieces. Her latest work is eclectic, abstract and inspired by many years spent living with a view of the often moody sea and sky in Brighton, the ever changing landscape, her love of the vibrant colours of Northern Italy and the fact that the glass has a mind of its own: opening the kiln sometimes brings surprises which can often lead the work in a new direction. She enjoys experimenting with new ideas and techniques. Website: http://marymckeanglass.uk Facebook: Instagram: http://instragram.com/marymckeanglass Email: mary@marymckeanglass.uk

  • Matthew Fackrell | North Somerset Arts

Matthew Fackrell Painting/Drawing Matthew Fackrell Painting/Drawing Matthew Fackrell Painting/Drawing 1/1 A recent graduate from North Somerset, I spend my quiet moments between professional and personal time creating – frequently with acrylic, among other mediums. Training formally in Social Anthropology and Sustainability (BA, MSc) after studying art in school, my focus within both painting and everyday photography often coincides with an interest in people and a sense of place, using visual media to explore moments and interactions. Currently, I am enjoying exploring landscapes and atmospheres, with particular attention to how light plays with objects, surfaces, and other presences. At time of writing, I have most recently exhibited as part of Somerset Aspects at ART GALLERY & STUDIO by Aga Kubish. • Nick Whiting | North Somerset Arts

Nick Whiting Sculpture Nick Whiting Sculpture Nick Whiting Sculpture 1/1 My sculpting life has taken a dramatic and new direction in the last two years. First, I was asked to do a statue of St Francis of Assisi for a friend. The outcome of this is that the figure I produced now lives in the communal gardens of a retirement home and is much loved by all who go to see him. Whilst doing this I was given a commission by a school in Accra, Ghana for three life size busts to represent the three people who founded the school 24 years ago. The school has established itself and is now very highly regarded in the education world. They are currently building an extension to the school and the busts will have a special part in the new building - cast in bronze, to be on permanent display for evermore! • Gemma Lane | North Somerset Arts

Gemma Lane Painting/Drawing Gemma Lane Painting/Drawing Gemma Lane Painting/Drawing 1/1 My name is Gemma Lane. I studied Fine Art at Oxford Brookes University in the early 2000’s and then became an Art and Photography secondary teacher for 15 years. In the evenings I would explore and experiment with acrylic paint and had one of my pieces accepted in the Bath Fringe Art Exhibition in 2011. I became a mother to 2 boys in 2013 and 2016. After my second son was born I started my business Green Fox Workshops, offering art workshops in Bath, Bristol and Somerset. I now run this full time, teaching people of all ages from ages 7 up to 87. I have returned to oils and some early conceptual ideas from my university days. Preservation, the beauty in decay and that death is inevitable. The painting ‘Beauty in death’ depicts this well and is an area I am going to explore further in my own work. I am interested in the vulnerability and fragile aspects of nature and how this can be shown. I really enjoy being outdoors and seeing the changing seasons and painting with acrylics, watercolour and chalk pastels landscapes that surround me. I love the contrast of the seasons, the intense lushness of the summer, compared to the winter, where everything is dormant and more barren. I take my own reference photos or paint plein air.
