- Emma Garland (Little Red Apple) | North Somerset Arts
Emma Garland (Little Red Apple) Jewellery Emma Garland (Little Red Apple) Jewellery Emma Garland (Little Red Apple) Jewellery 1/1 I make geometric wooden jewellery, using sustainably sourced walnut wood. My work is influenced by my love of clean, crisp design and simple shapes. I enjoy using pops of cheerful colour to contrast with the wood. The wooden pieces I use to make my jewellery are laser cut by a Bristol company who translate my hand drawn sketches into real life wooden shapes. I then sand, paint, varnish and assemble my jewellery by hand in my garden studio in Portishead. I also design greetings cards for all occasions. I make the original art work as paper collages, incorporating my own pattern designs, which are then digitally printed on to eco-friendly card. - Suzy Hannabuss | North Somerset Arts
Suzy Hannabuss Glass Suzy Hannabuss Glass Suzy Hannabuss Glass 1/1 I began my glass journey over 15 years ago when I took a lampworking class at a glass studio in Bath and fell in love with lampworking straight away. Lampworking is a type of glasswork where a torch is primarily used to melt glass. The glass I use comes in rod form and many different colours. Once in a molten state, the glass is formed by blowing, stretching, and shaping many layers with tools and hand movements on a steel rod to form a bead. They are then slowly cooled in a digitally controlled kiln, known as annealing. Annealing of glass is an important process of slowly cooling hot glass objects after they have been formed, to relieve residual internal stresses introduced during making of the bead. These one-of-a-kind glass beads I make are then used in making my bespoke jewellery. I mainly use sterling silver findings in my jewellery but also gold vermeil and different coloured copper wire and findings. I will also make European style big hole beads, Christmas ornaments and other home decorations.
