I studied Fine Art at Central St Martins and Slade. I participated in Rose Frain's Womens Art Weeks, where I developed a more intuitive, imaginative approach to art making. During an NHS career in Art Therapy I continued to make images and attended courses at printmaking studios and at The Essential School of Painting. I studied Touch Drawing with Deborah Koff-Chapin in Findhorn, Seattle and online. A professional Artist living and working in Clevedon, North Somerset, I diversified from painting into 3d wire sculptures in 2014. I use a variety of single strand wires in coloured copper, galvanised and stainless steel to create intricate animal and bird forms many of which are mounted on old wooden posts. My work sells nationally and internationally and I was commissioned to make my first Public piece in 2021 by Willmott Dixon Construction Company, to make a large sculpture of a Sea Eagle for a New School in Yatton, North Somerset. I trained at Clay College in Stoke-on-Trent, an intensive course designed to teach practical and in-depth exploration of the craft of pottery. As much as I shape clay, clay is what shapes me, and influences how I interact with it as a material. I approach my making with curiosity and play, paying close attention to how the clay responds to my hands and tools. I consider how I might encourage the marks of impressed stamps to sweep or fly across a stretched slab of porcelain, or how waves of clay might ripple up a wooden rib. I seek to capture a lively and natural loose energy in my work and I draw greatly from surface quality. Whether throwing or hand building my aim is the same: to capture a sense of movement. Jennifer Davidson Painting/Drawing Jennifer Davidson Painting/Drawing Jennifer Davidson Painting/Drawing 1/1 After many years working as a Fashion artist, designer and cutter in London and Paris I set up a Curtain Design Studio for an Interior Designer who had billionaire clients all round the world who wanted individual and elaborate curtains in their many homes. I was also sent to Kevin McCloud (of Grand Designs on TV) who was then teaching Paint Finishes so I was then sent to these exotic homes (e.g. Switzerland and India) to paint their interior walls with rag-rolling, stippling, sponging, stencilling etc. For some time I had been part of a painting group on a Monday at Barry Paine’s Studio in Chew Stoke which I much enjoyed so when in 1992 we had a recession and I wasn’t getting much work I went to UWE to study Fine Art. Since then I have exhibited widely including the Royal Academy and Mall Galleries in London. My work is in many private collections around the world, such as Japan, Jamaica and New Zealand. I am a member of the Bath Society of Artists and a founder member of the North Somerset Arts Week. I have been very fortunate indeed to have succeeded at something I can continue to enjoy.
