Karen's ceramics combine her interests in texture, landscape and plants, from tiny pebbles to tall abstract forms. The colour palette is deliberately earthy and natural, to complement plants rather than compete with them. Clay surfaces are carved, inlaid, scraped, polished or impressed during the making stage to give interesting textures bich are then enhanced with oxide washes, slips (liquid clay) and glazes. Karen regularly exhibits her unique work in prestigious sculpture garden events and is happy to discuss commission or personalisation ideas. Her large studio at Barley Wood Walled Garden, Wrington, always has a display of finished pieces for sale and is open throughout the year by appointment. Liane Stevenson Mixed Media Liane Stevenson Mixed Media Liane Stevenson Mixed Media 1/1 Liane Stevenson is a professional artist living and working in North Somerset. She trained in Fine Art, sculpture at UWE, and has continued to work within the artistic environment since then. Her work divides into three main areas, portraiture, landscape, and work inspired by the natural world. In her portraiture Liane is not concerned with a photographic likeness, but rather to capture a glimpse of the character of her subject and make a connection between the sitter and the viewer. In her landscapes she is inspired by the rhythms found in the natural and agricultural landscape, and in the architectural geometry of the cityscape. She uses mixed media and collage to represent and enhance the decorative aspect of these qualities, whist maintaining a sense of place. Liane’s interest in the natural world is really a celebration of the beauty and diversity of the World's fauna. She hopes to inspire her viewers to value and conserve our environment and the creatures within it. More recently she has been working with wood carving, a discipline she hopes to explore further. Members are expected to steward events/exhibitions they are taking part in. Members will be expected to meet deadlines set by NSA when taking part in or applying to take part in events and exhibitions. Members will be expected to help in the distribution of brochures and other publicity materials for any event/exhibition they take part in as well as helping to spread the word through their own marketing channels (e.g. word of mouth, social media and any other opportunity available to them). Members must abide by the terms and conditions for any NSA events. Penalties for breaching the conditions will be determined by the committee and may include removal from membership and/or fines to cover additional costs and admin charges incurred as a result. Members may only use NSA branding (e.g. flags, banners, posters, logos) for events organised or in collaboration with NSA. All exhibitors for Arts Week must be NSA members. Venues found to have non-members exhibiting may be fined the full membership amount for each non-member. Group Membership Intended for art clubs, schools and teaching studios etc. Requirements to qualify for group membership: Minimum of 10 members. Group members should meet at least 10 times per year for a practical art activity. Groups should charge fees for membership, classes or education (except for educational establishments). This is not intended for individual artists that only exhibit together or share workspace.
